Memorial Biography

On October 27, 2022, Carlton Harris went home to be with his Lord and Savior in Heaven. Carlton was 80 years old and resided in Lakeland Florida with his wife of 30 years Carole Anne Harris. He is survived by 5 children, their spouses, 13 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren residing in Ohio and Texas as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family members. Carlton also enjoyed many friends and neighbors from Lakeland and Plant City, Florida.

Carlton was born on January 2, 1942, to Herman and Ocie Harris in Fairmount, West Virginia and was the 5th of six children. He was preceded in death by brothers and sisters Hartzell Harris, Jeannette Hawkinberry, Jean Kisner, and Dewayne Harris. He is survived by his sister Beulah Doll of Ashtabula, Ohio. In 1958 Carlton move to Akron, Ohio and graduated from Akron Barber College and owned and operated his own barber shop for several years. In 1976, Carlton began working at Schwebel’s Bakery where he worked and managed multiple teams for 31 years before retiring in 2006.

Carlton married Carole on May 9th, 1992, and enjoyed a blended family with 5 children Julie, Linda, Lori, Cathy, and Keith. Together with spouses the 5 children brought much joy with 13 grandchildren – Steven (with the Lord), Raquel, Jennifer, Brittney, Jim, Joe, Cheyenne, Brooke, Cassidy, Kaitlynn, Matthew, Kennedy, and Kylie. An additional 8 great-grandchildren increased the blessings the family enjoyed. After retiring, Carlton and Carole began to enjoy Florida during winters and eventually moved to Plant City and eventually settling in Lakeland, Florida.

Outside of work, Carlton participated in many activities with family that brought fullness and joy to his life. He was a Mason and for many years he taught Sunday School and drove the Sunday School bus for the Akron Baptist Temple. He enjoyed visiting the North Georgia Mountains, taking cruises and learning ballroom and square dancing where he met many close friends.

Carlton lived a full and blessed life and will be missed greatly!

The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Heart Association in Carlton’s honor.
